Another night without sleeping, all thinking no dreaming
And there’s an empty side where my bride used to lay
But she’s in the world somewhere, doing something with someone
While I’m here with no one, and it’s a nothing day
It’s not even two years now, since I married that girl
The wedding photos didn’t even get printed, they’re just picture files
But her love for me soon faded, like yellowing pages
Said she felt like a bird in a cage, that only wanted to fly

And it’s hard to catch a moving target
Like trying to hold someone, who doesn’t want to be touched
I paid for the rings, handed over my money
But every dollar I laid out, was two dollars too much

Followed her from here to far, motel lobbies to hotel bars
Airport lounges to stations, rented rooms and cars
But she was always one city ahead, and then she crossed the Pacific
Without getting specific, that was a journey too far

And it’s so easy to miss a moving target
Like trying to hold a hand, that won’t let you touch
I paid for the fare, handed over my money
But every dollar I laid out, was two dollars too much

Sometimes I feel like I’m a hunter playing a barroom machine
Shooting deer between the cross-hairs of a video screen
But I’m down to my last life, and I think I lost my wife
